If You Don't Drive Sober, You'll Get Pulled Over
This holiday season, the California Office of Traffic Safety would like to remind individuals that if they plan to consume alcohol this holiday season, it is important to designate a sober driver and remember the campaign “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
The campaign comes as a result of the significant increase in alcohol-related fatalities during the holiday season and the increase in drug-related DUIs. In fact, in 2014, 9,967 individuals suffered fatal injuries in accidents involving drunk or otherwise impaired motorists. For this reason, law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, will increase patrol from December 16 through January 1. This will include an increase in the number of patrols and checkpoints throughout California.
Additionally, OTS is reminding drivers that marijuana and prescription medications can also impair judgment and result in a DUI as well. In fact, 9,967 individuals suffered fatal injuries in accidents involving drunk or otherwise impaired motorists.
The director of the California Office of Traffic Safety states, “Driving under the influence is not only costly, but can ruin the holidays for you, for your family or for someone else’s family. […] Make the decision to drive sober or use our DDVIP app to help you find a safe ride home for yourself or your friends if you know they’ve been drinking.”
About the DDVIP App
With this app, individuals can find nearby restaurants and bars that are offering free incentives for designated drivers. Many of these incentives include free appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks, and more. This app also includes a button, which can call a car service company to pick up non-designated drivers and deliver them home safely.
