Police Pursuit of Intoxicated Driver Leaves Innocent Motorist Fatally Injured
In an absolutely tragic turn of events late last week, a Stockton motorist was killed in a vehicle collision after being struck by an intoxicated driver who was attempting to flee from Police. The California Highway Patrol reported that officers had attempted to pull over a drunk driver in San Andreas County when the motorist made the selfish and reckless decision to endanger his life, and the lives of fellow motorists, by attempting to evade Police capture.
The driver lead officers on a high speed chase westbound on State Route 26. This chase ultimately resulted in the fatal collision in Stockton, near the intersection of Union and Main Streets. Police were able to apprehend the suspect, who had a previous criminal record including a hit-and-run felony, a short time later with the help of local citizens who prevented him from fleeing the scene of the accident on foot. Tragically, this chase resulted in a terrible accident which left an innocent motorist fatally injured. Witnesses reported that the driver who was struck by the suspect may never have seen the other car coming.
While the suspect's Blood Alcohol Content at the time of the crash has not yet been released, Police reported that he was visibly intoxicated and had multiple empty alcohol containers in the car during the incident.
