New Highway Safety Program Aims to Reduce Number of Wrong-Way Car Accidents in Sacramento
California motorists face a growing number of safety threats while driving on state roads and highways. Between drivers that are intoxicated, distracted, or simply speeding, one safety hazard that often goes unmentioned is the risk of being involved in an accident caused by a motorist that is driving in the wrong direction. Now, a new program commissioned by the California Department of Transportation will aim to put a stop to drivers that enter freeway off-ramps heading in the wrong direction.
This new program, which will launch early next year, will examine 18 freeway off-ramps in Sacramento and Yolo Counties to see how the safety measures on these ramps could be improved. Wrong-way drivers are a very serious safety hazard on roads and highways in the Sacramento area, and these accidents cause serious and even fatal injuries to California motorists every year.
This program will focus on specific areas along I-80, Highway 50 and I-5, and explore new signs, lights, and other measures that will hopefully make our highways safer for all motorists.
