Thousands of Stockton Residents Lose Power Following DUI Crash
Police are reporting that an intoxicated dump truck driver was to blame for an accident that caused thousands of Stockton, CA residents to lose power for hours on Tuesday, March 31st. According to Stockton Police, the dump truck driver slammed into a power pole near the 400 block of North Alpine Road, knocking down power lines and causing serious risk to all residents in the area. Thankfully, the accident did not impact any other motorists, but did leave nearly 6,000 residents without electricity for over 24 hours.
The dump truck driver was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) at the scene of the accident. DUI is a serious offense and is harshly penalized under California law. Drivers found guilty of operating a vehicle while over the legal limit of intoxication can face a multitude of penalties, including points on their drivers' license, penalties of between $390 to $2,600, and even possible jail time. California Police are stepping up enforcement of DUI penalties in order to demonstrate just how serious of an issue it is for all drivers.
